Steel in the cycle

Steel is the basis of the load-bearing structure in the Pacarada modular building system. It is fully recyclable and stays in the material cycle.

Good thermal insulation and carefully planned connections make the buildings energy-efficient. Photovoltaics, heat pumps and other renewable energy sources can be planned in from the start.

Bolted, not welded: this keeps the steel components reusable.

Steel: a material with a closed cycle

Steel can be melted down again and again without losing quality. Steel components in a modular building today can be made into new steel at the end of their use or, because the Pacarada system is bolted and plugged together rather than welded, even reused unchanged in a new building.

The cycle in figures

83 % of our material offcuts are recyclable. Our aim is to reduce waste to 1 % by 2040. Buildings made with the system last a long time, can be converted and dismantled, and reach standards up to the German Efficiency House 40 (Effizienzhaus 40).

Less material, less weight

Steel structures are light in relation to their load-bearing capacity. This reduces the amount of material and the transport weight, and makes it possible to add storeys where the load reserves of an existing building would not be enough for solid construction.

Combined with timber and concrete

Where it helps with climate or sound protection, the system connects the steel node with timber or concrete elements. Which combination fits depends on use, fire protection and budget. You will find the components on pacaradasystem.de.

One system for your next project

The internationally patented Pacarada modular building system is developed and manufactured in Germany. Whether you are a client, a municipality, an architect or a construction company: we plan with you which combination of 1D, 2D and 3D components suits your site, your schedule and your budget. How steel, timber and concrete work together in modular construction is explained in our article Steel modular and hybrid construction.
